ASID 2020

Bringin’ home the GOLD!!!

–We’re interrupting our “Rethinking” series to share some spectacular news…–

The ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) is a prestigious community of professionals whose members have passed rigorous acceptance standards. Terracotta, amid the beaucoups of stellar design talent in Georgia, participated in the ASID 2020 Design Excellence Awards.

The competition gets tougher each year. Nail biting. We all poured ourselves a stiff cocktail 🍸 at home and attended the (I think) first ever virtual awards gala, where they announced this year’s winners.

The “Office Team” texts were blowing up as the announcements continued!

SO, without further ado, we brought home two GOLD awards. Whoot! 🥂🏆🏆 Of course we’re going to share. The two winning categories are for Residential Renovation and for Showhouse.

The first: Residential Renovation, Gold.

We love our Decatur bungalows! The homeowners adored their charming home and their intown location, but as they’re family grew, space seemed to be getting very tight in their lovely dwelling.

We reconfigured the kitchen to maximize space and storage ability, and specified all new Thermador appliances, counters and finishes. A small breakfast nook was repurposed with a mudroom and computer niche for more efficient use of space. A hall guest bath, was fully renovated with updated fixtures. The kitchen was fully opened to the rarely used dining room, and the latter transformed by a real stunner of a cased/cabinet opening and stellar finishes. Upstairs, new bathrooms, new laundry and surrounding spaces were updated and reconfigured. The basement went from cramped and unfinished to teen retreat! Every room was repainted, refinished and fully refurnished.

🏆

The second: Showhouse, Gold

This Traditional Home Showhome is in the heart of historic Charleston and was built in 1844. With substantial renovations, a beautiful addition, and gardens to make you swoon, we proudly took charge of the design for the master bathroom and dressing suite.

To make the master bath the ultimate retreat, we incorporated indulgent bathing and showering areas, along with a built-in coffee and tea beverage maker along with hidden refrigeration drawers from Thermador…all designed with a moody, deco “speakeasy” vibe. The soaking tub sits in a private niche that feels like a sanctuary. The shower features a sophisticated combination of floor to ceiling Crossville surfaces, with a porcelain slab bench, situated in full of a view of the garden. Highlighted on a panel of antique mirror, a large Equestrian photograph, commissioned from an Atlanta artist Brandon Luther at Southern Bit, is the focal point as you enter the space. The vanity is custom designed to look and feel like furniture, in a handsome distressed mahogany, and set on a backdrop of “Envisioned” wall covering from Kravet that suggests a whimsical hint of frosty marble. Rubbed brass sconces by Circa, grace either side of Faux shagreen beveled mirrors by Made Goods, making the look modern, sleek, and decidedly masculine.

🏆
